Benxi Tourist information

Benxi is a prefecture level city within Liaoning province in China.

Intro to Benxi

Benxi (Chinese: 本溪; pinyin: Běnxī) is a prefecture-level city in the Liaoning province, south-southeast of Shenyang. It was founded as a metallurgical center in 1915 and Benxi Iron and Steel Company ("Bengang") is still the largest employer in the city today. The second largest industry in Benxi is coal mining. Once listed by the UN as one of the most polluted cities in the world, Benxi has reorganized its industry and is now a model for clean and green development.

Geography of Benxi

Benxi contains 4 districts (区 Qū) and 2 autonomous counties (治县 Zìzhìxiàn) for the Manchu nation:

  • Pingshan District (平山区; Píngshān Qū)
  • Xihu District (溪湖区; Xīhú Qū)
  • Mingshan District (明山区; Míngshān Qū)
  • Nanfen District (南芬区; Nánfēn Qū)
  • Benxi Manchu Autonomous County (本溪满族自治县; Běnxī Mǎnzú
  • Zìzhìxiàn)
  • Huanren Manchu Autonomous County (桓仁满族自治县; Huánrén Mǎnzú Zìzhìxiàn)

Within these there are 25 counties, 40 villages and towns, 229 communities and 289 village committees.
